MR SHEWRING:

Aged 79, exercise is better than a pill.

How i did it: My physio asked if I would attend a gym on GP Referral Scheme

My motivation was: I had restored my faith in regaining some of my mobility.

What i have achieved: On being diagnosed with Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy in 2011 and told that I would not walk or stand again, I can now at least stand with support.

How i feel now: I thoroughly enjoy the exercise schedule arranged for me and I can feel the benefits to my upper body strength and legs already. Thoroughly recommended!

KATE Aged 60, A nurse weighed me - shock!

How i did it: I went to see a nurse who weighed me - shock! I joined a gym & haven’t looked back with the support & encouragement from the staff who planned my routine.

My motivation was: I had noticed I was putting on weight & being treated for fibro myalgia. When I sat down I was incredibly stiff & unable to get up. I was unable to walk far.

What i have achieved: Lost 2 ½ stone & can now bend without creaking How i feel now: I try to go to the gym twice per week. Firstly I was so nervous but now I enjoy the feeling of doing something positive for me and my family, hopefully I will continue at the gym & losing weight & begin to enjoy life. For the first time in years I can now breathe in & hold it.
